Anybody who knows anything about horses is familiar with Hrímnir from Hrafnagil. Hrímnir was born on the Hrafnagil farm in 1975. The story of this spectacular horse is truly remarkable. As many people know, Hrímnir came into the possession of Björn from Varmilækur (Skagafjörður) in the spring of 1980 and has been there ever since. Hrímnir was put to rest 23 september 2007.  His track record is not long or the list of tournaments he participated in but nevertheless memorable for many reasons. On only three occasions did Hrímnir participate in tournaments. His first public appearance was in a local tournament in Skagafjörður in 1980 and he of course won his group. Next year he came first by far and received first prize in tolt in the National Championship in Melgerðismelar. Last but not least, in 1982 he won the B-group of stallions in the Icelandic Horse Festival (Landsmót) in Vindheimamelar, then only 7 years old.

Hrímnir marked a turningpoint in the breeding of Icelandic horses as one of the greatest and most beautiful horse ever born. His conformation, temperament, foot work (leg structure and correctness) and the exceptional structure of his neck / withers / shoulders make him a  legend and to many people the ultimate dream horse. This has been confirmed in many polls over the years. In 2001 he was named the greatest horse of the 20th century by the readers of Eiðfaxi magazine. Also, he was the recipient of Honor status at the Icelandic Horse Festival 2002 (Landsmót) in Skagafjörður 20 years after his memorable achievement. That day, at the age of 26, he was still outstanding in comparison to the horses competing that day.

On numerous occasions he has participated in all sorts of horse and riders-related events and usually taken people by storm. Finally, we must mention Hrímnir's debut in the film industry when he took on the leading role in the Icelandic motion picture Magnús. As you see, we could go on and on!

Therefore, no one should be surprised when we explain our intentions to continue the breeding of mares related to Hrímnir since he laid the very foundations of Hrafnagil as an excellent breeding farm.
